These onions need to be fried

Because they are getting stinkier!

142. Welcome back to the Palace Bar Truth Blog.

As I stated in Blog 9 and other Blogs, I am having trouble getting information from the Mayor’s office. All the other departments have been timely in their responses. I did get an update today, July 28, 2023. (see Below)

Good Afternoon, Mr. Noel:

I just wanted to update you that we are still working on the email portion of the request and hope to have it completed shortly. If you have changed your mind about getting the part that is ready (Facebook message documents), please let me know.

Thank you.

I responded that I would continue to wait.

143. Below is a continuation of conversations between the Mayor and Melissa Hyatt. Note the timely manner that she gets replies to her concerns. This will be important in some future Blogs.

MELISSA HYATT

Owner of A dozen excuses and de facto mayor of the City of Superior

144. Melissa Hyatt starts off with “ANOTHER SHOOTING”. That is not true as cited in Blog 9. Then she goes on about 2 years of “fines, letters and meetings don’t work”.

We have never received a fine or letter, and we never had, or were ask to attend a meeting about her concerns. She talks about the “new hotel being effected”. Does she actually have any proof of that, because I have never had a complaint or call from them. In fact I have never had a call or complaint from any of the businesses around us in the five and a half years I owned the Palace.

145. Then she goes on about her videos. I am sure that movie night at Chateau Hyatt must be a blast. I wonder if the Mayor ever attended any of these Oscar winning screenings. He must have seen some of them because he said in his letter (blog 9, point 132) the following.

“While I wouldn’t recommend the place to anyone, we didn’t find anything that merited significant action, such as a review of their license or triggering the nuisance ordinance. Most of the actual problems involved drinking in the back alley, some minor property damage, and fighting. The criminal activity wasn’t significant or common enough to merit much response beyond increased patrols and some communication with the owner of the Palace”.

And by the way, nobody reached out to us. And they did increase their patrols.

146. Then she went on to say “it’s going to get worse”. Is she now a clairvoyant as well? So, in one text, she made 4 lies, 2 unsupported accusations and 1 fact.

John Lovitz playing The Liar on SNL

147. In her next text, she goes on about the possibility of losing her employee because he is concerned for his safety. Did you think about our employees who had to go through this ordeal. None of them quit. It’s because they knew this was a one off. They were familiar with the two bad guys. They also knew that the Palace was no worse than all the other busy places in town (more on this on a later blog). They knew that the Palace was not what you have been making it out to be.

148. Maybe you scared the crap out of your employee with your non-stop hysterics. And if he did leave, hire another baker. There is no need to lose your business over that. Whenever, at Shorty’s or the Palace, I heard somebody was thinking of leaving, for whatever reason, I started looking for a replacement. At Shorty’s our menu was ten times the size of the donut shop. When someone left, we hired someone else. Was it hard. Darn right. There has been a staff problem in this area for the last ten or so years. But we have all the recipes. We have a handbook for servers and bartenders to make it easier once we do hire someone. Don’t you? If you don’t, then you can blame yourself. To say you are going to lose your business over one baker sounds ridiculous. And if that would be true, why the hell would you have opened a business that depends on one baker? So your solution is to suck up to the Mayor and convince him that in order to keep your baker and business, that he needs to shut down ours. And then lie, distort and exaggerate and make me, my wife, my staff and our customers look like we are some kind of monsters out to destroy the planet.

149. All you ever had to do is call me or my wife and discuss your concerns and we could have had a discussion or several discussions to see if we could reach a mutual conclusion. Another option is that you also could have called your lawyer and had him make up a letter with your concerns and we could have negotiated through him. I’m not talking about an expensive lawsuit, I’m talking about a negotiation.

150. A Dozen Excuses is opened 29 hours a week. According to your Facebook page, you are closed Sun. and Mon. and Tues-Sat 6am to noon(7am Sat).

We were opened 365 days a year 10am till 2am everyday(2:30 am on Fri and Sat).

That is 113 hours a week. We only overlap 9 hours a week. And they are morning hours, when 99.99% of the time, it’s slow. I can’t see how on earth we interfere with your business. You seem to spend more time looking out your back window and making videos of your parking lot than a hunter spends in a deer stand. It’s absolutely ridiculous and quite frankly, pathetic.

151. And another thing, you have a lot of nerve, a lot of damn nerve, when you bought a building nestled between two bars and think that you would get the piece and quiet of country living, like as if you a bought a home with 100 acres and no neighbors, in the middle of nowhere. Tower Ave. is the main drag in Superior. It is a commercial area. It is zoned as a highway. You are the only person that lives on that very long block. When I was 21, I lived in a similar situation in Ottawa. It was on Rideau St, which is like Tower Ave., except on steroids. It was the first apartment of my own. It was on top of an Italian restaurant. The pizza was great, ice cold beer and the best veal parmesan I’ve ever had to this day. The front of the apartment was on Rideau St. and the back, which was the bedroom, overlooked the Market. The Market was like Canal Park on triple steroids(and still is). That was 46 years ago, and it was much seedier back then. Police, fire truck and ambulance sirens, music and people noise 7 days a week. I loved it. It was only 5 minutes from my work. Life was great. Would I like it now? I doubt it.

152. When I lived in Florida, the most well know defense lawyer in town moved his office on top of a Mexican restaurant. He then sued them, because he said he could smell the food. He lost the case. So, the big shot defense lawyer who seemingly won all the big cases lost to a small mom and pop restaurant. The judge said to him that when he moved there, knowing that there was a restaurant below him, he should have know better.

153. If you live near an airport, a police or fire station, a hospital, a railroad, or the main street of a city it’s no different. You have given up your right to complain about noise, traffic and other things, as long as the places around you are compliant with the law. You also could have rented the place out and moved to a quieter place. Most people don’t live on top of their business. It’s not like you had to live there. But somehow you thought the best way to take care of the problem was to have us shut down. Shame on you, the Mayor and anybody else involved in this harebrained scheme.

JIM PAINE

Actual elected mayor of the City of Superior

154. The Mayor responds to her that “this represents a serious escalation and our license is on the table.”

155. And then she goes on with her regular babble, still going on about the first shooting. Yes, the one that never happened. See Blog 8, point 125. Still going on about losing an employee. Then she said, “that before her partner passed, he was attacked in the parking lot”

156. I never heard that until I read this. So, today I sent an email to the chief.

Hi Chief,

On a text from Melissa Hyatt to the Mayor on May 18, 2022, she mentions that before he passed, her partner was attacked in the parking lot. Do you have any info. or police record on this.

I will let you know in a future Blog, the results of this question.

157. I have a few observations about her text. The first one is, I am absolutely convinced she knows that there was no prior shooting. But what really surprises me is the lack of curiosity of the people who have read her texts where she mentions it. After all, when you hear about a shooting, it’s a pretty big deal don’t you think? When my wife and I first read about it, we were freaked out. How could there have been a shooting and never heard about it. Well, it’s because there wasn’t one. She made it up and a year after the fake shooting, she still brings it up. But none of the following people who are on her thread have questioned it or tried to correct her. They are Jim Paine, Chief Alexander, Tyler Elm and Bradley Jago. Doesn't that seem odd to you? It does to me.

158. But the real telling point for me was her reaction or lack of reaction to his mention of our license being on the table. It tells me what I said all along. They have been trying to find a reason to take it away. There was no “Jim, that’s great” or “Jim, don’t you think that’s going too far” moment. No emotion or surprise at all really. Don’t you find that strange? I mean, if you had not spoke about this, to me it would be a real “WOW” moment. But she just goes on spewing her regular gibberish as if he said he was having a club sandwich for lunch. That is why the information prior to March 18, 2022, from the Mayor’s office is important.

159. And if that’s not enough, she tries to crash a meeting. Have you ever seen anything like this? And while she can’t go to that one, the Mayor is planning a different one that she can go to.

160. As I said at the top of the Blog, check out the timeline.

First text from Melissa 7:00 am (that is only 5 hours after the shooting) (nice time to bug the mayor as well)

Next text from Melissa 7:40 am (what a pest) (the 2 suspects haven’t even been caught yet)

Response from Mayor 8:15 am (mayor must have slept in)

Response from Mayor 9:56 am

Next text from Melissa Not sure

Next text from Melissa 11:46 am

Response from Mayor Not sure (but I’m guessing it wasn’t long after)

Do you or anybody you know get this kind of service from the Mayor?

161. I would like to close the blog today with some good news. I was looking through A Dozen Excuses Facebook page. It seems that Melissa Hyatt has finally figured out how to recruit employees. Here is a post from June 28, 2023. Hopefully, she can stay open, now and in the future.

162. I want to thank all of you for reading the Palace Bar Truth Blog and I’ll see you back here soon!!!!
