MANIFESTO OF A MADMAN PART 16

SOUR NOTE

FACE OF EVIL

THE MOUTHPIECE HAS FALLEN OUT OF THE HORN AND ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE!

588. Welcome to today’s Blog. We will painfully continue to decipher the Mayor’s letter and later we will have stories about two corrupt Mayors, a cute beaver and of course more Caitlin Clark news. So let’s get on with the letter from hell.

“MANIFESTO OF A MADMAN.”

THE LONG LETTER

589. The Mayor said the following:

“JJ's Bar will detract from the largely quiet, orderly, clean, and peaceful environment that has defined that area of Tower Avenue since the closure of the Palace. Even if Ms. Wheat fully achieved her vision for JJ's Bar, it will be a loud late-night bar with a substantial smoking area on the front side of the building. It will be the 4th licensed establishment on that block and would have the largest square footage, significantly changing the way in which alcohol is consumed in that neighborhood.”

COMMENTS

As I said on the last blog:

“The Palace was a clean and well kept tavern. We had an outside cleaning service come in 365 days a year. Our restrooms and equipment was always well maintained. We always received very high marks from the heath and fire departments on our yearly inspections.”

LIE # 16

590. From the Mayor:

Even if Ms. Wheat fully achieved her vision for JJ's Bar, it will be a loud late-night bar with a substantial smoking area on the front side of the building.”

COMMENTS

God this guy is a hypocrite. You, Mayor Paine (by way of your proxy Melissa Hyatt) are the one who told her that you wanted to move smoking away from the back, not Jordan. You don’t have these rules for anybody else. But the fact that you are using your stupid idea against her goes to show what an idiot you truly are. Some people go to the front but most go to the back. I mean who wants to go to the front sucking up the fumes from the cars and trucks and also hear the noise. But some do. We live in a free country and people are supposed to be able to make their own decisions. Mayor Paine should take notice of that.

591. And the Mayor said this:

“it will be a loud late-night bar”

PALACE ON A SLOW NIGHT

MAYOR PAINE ALONE AT BAR

COMMENTS

WTF does that even mean? We don’t have live music. We have a jukebox like 99% of the bars in town. We are bound by city and state laws as far as when we can open and close. In other words, we are just a normal bar. Again, WTF is the Mayor talking about?

592. And then he said this:

“It will be the 4th licensed establishment on that block and would have the largest square footage, significantly changing the way in which alcohol is consumed in that neighborhood.”

COMMENTS

BOY GEORGE

Childish, stupid, infantile and deserves a “Manchild” moment. The three licensed establishments he is talking about are Bucktales/Shorty’s, Who’s Bar and The Tap on Tower. Superior used to have almost double the amount of bars and I’m sure the block we are on had more than we have today. It should not be the government’s job to say how many of any business whether it’s bars, convenient stores, grocery stores, barber shops, vape stores etc. The public will decide that. It’s called supply and demand. And one man, like Mayor Paine, the man of zero accomplishments, who has no clue how business works should not be making these kind if decisions. The public will decide that. And by the way the Palace has been around before this goofball was even born. And, what does “significantly changing the way in which alcohol is consumed in that neighborhood.” even mean. The Palace has “serving alcohol in that neighborhood” before that little moron was a little moron.

SWITCHING GEARS

WHAT’S UP WITH THESE AWFUL MAYORS?

2 mayors running in spite of charges

Good Thunder, Waseca officials plead guilty to separate misdemeanors.

Two mayors in south-central Minnesota say they will continue running for re-election after both recently entered guilty pleas to gross misdemeanor charges in separate cases.

Randy Zimmerman, 49, said Friday that he trusts voters in Waseca, 30 minutes east of Mankato, will support his re-election campaign after he pleaded guilty to perjury under oath. As part of a plea on Oct. 4 that would dismiss two felony perjury charges, Zimmerman admitted to writing on a voter registration application in 2022 that his address was within Waseca, instead of his actual residence outside the city limits. “It’s going to be up to the voters; my situation has been an open book from the get-go,” Zimmerman said, adding that he still is building his house in Waseca.
Zimmerman had written in his childhood home in the town instead of the address that was on his driver’s license and other documents, according to court filings. His challenger for mayor, Milton Madson, said he was running to hold Zimmerman and other public officials accountable.
“It’s not right that he should be able to run as mayor,” said Madson, 37. “He just kind of got slapped on the wrist.”
Zimmerman is slated for sentencing Nov. 27.

Robert John Anderson, 68, the mayor of Good Thunder since 1992, also had a plea hearing Oct. 4 and pleaded guilty to a conflict-of-interest charge, a gross misdemeanor.
Anderson admitted to having a personal financial interest in a transaction on Aug. 25, 2020, after a city worker contacted his son for a street project, leading to the family trucking company receiving $1,723 to haul gravel. Anderson broke the law, but it wasn’t a “willful violation,” his lawyer, Thomas Hagen, said on Friday.
“It’s a small town,” Hagen said of Good Thunder, which is 20 minutes south of Mankato and has a population of about 500. “The city was operating like that for years before he was mayor; that’s just the way they always did it.” As part of a plea deal, Anderson will have three felony counts of embezzlement and theft against him dropped, will not see any additional jail time and will have the remaining misdemeanor charge dismissed within a year.
“The only thing he admitted guilt to is the only crime he committed,” Hagen said.
Anderson is due for sentencing Jan. 14 in Blue Earth County District Court.
He is running for re-election unopposed.

I LOVE A CUTE BEAVER...DON’T YOU?

NIBI

‘Diva’ beaver Nibi captures  hearts in Massachusetts

Governor says she’ll stay with rescuers to educate people about beaverse

BOSTON – The question of whether a two-year-old beaver named Nibi can stay with the rescuers she has known since she was a baby or must be released into the wild was resolved Thursday when the Massachusetts governor stepped in to protect Nibi. The state issued a permit to Newhouse Wildlife Rescue for Nibi to remain at the rehabilitation facility and serve as an educational animal. “Nibi has captured the hearts of many of our residents, mine included,” Gov. Maura Healey said Thursday.

“We’re excited to share that we have issued a permit for Nibi to remain in Newhouse’s care, continuing to educate the public about this important species.” Nibi’s fate had made it all the way to the state courts before Healey stepped in. A judge on Tuesday had said that Nibi would be allowed to stay in her home at the rescue center in Chelmsford, northwest of Boston. A hearing had been set for Friday in a case filed by the rescuers against Mass- Wildlife, the state’s division of fisheries and wildlife, to stop the release. Nibi’s rescuers at Newhouse said on their Facebook page that they were “beyond grateful” for Healey’s decision. Nibi has been a hit on the rescue group’s social media site since she was a baby, and posts about her impending release garnered thousands of comments. An online petition to save Nibi from being released into the wild has received over 25,000 signatures, lawmakers have weighed in, and earlier this week Healey pledged to make sure Nibi is protected. “We all care about what is best for the beaver known as Nibi and all wild animals throughout our state,” Mark Tisa, director of MassWildlife, said in a statement Thursday. “We share the public’s passion for wildlife and invite everyone to learn more about beavers and their important place in our environment.” Jane Newhouse, the rescue group’s founder and president, has said that after Nibi was found on the side of the road, they tried to reunite her with nearby beavers who could have been her parents but were unsuccessful. After that, attempts to get her to bond with other beavers also didn’t work. “It’s very difficult to consider releasing her when she only seems to like people and seems to have no interest in being wild or bonding with any of her own species,” she said. Nibi has a large enclosure with a pool at the rescue operation, and will also wander in its yard and rehabilitation space, Newhouse said. “She pretty much has full run of the place. Everybody on my team is in love with her,” she said. Newhouse said she had asked MassWildlife if she could get a permit for Nibi to become an educational beaver, allowing her to take the beaver to schools, libraries and town halls. Newhouse said she feared a release would mean certain death for her beloved “diva” beaver, who doesn’t know how to live in the wild. “It doesn’t give her much time to figure out how to build a lodge for the first time, how to build dams for the first time, how to store all of her food before winter sets in,” she said. Newhouse said that beavers usually leave their parents between the ages of 2 and 3, so it’s possible that over the next year Nibi will show more interest in wanting to be in the wild. But unless that happens, she wants to keep her safe.

Beavers are common and abundant throughout Massachusetts. Beavers play an important role in fostering biodiversity of ecosystems, according to state officials. By damming rivers and streams, and forming shallow ponds, beavers are vital for creating healthy wetlands that support a tremendous diversity of plants, bugs, and wildlife, and store floodwaters. They are also North America’s largest native rodents, weighing between 35 and 80 pounds and reaching 2-3 feet in length as adults. Adult beavers have very few predators and can live for 20 years or more.

AND FINALLY

ANOTHER CAITLIN MOMENT

The WNBA badly needed a playoff format change, and the league responded

The first round of the playoffs will now give the lower seeded team a home tilt in Game 2, with a deciding Game 3 being played at the higher seed's arena. The WNBA Finals will also

expand to a best of seven series. This was a much-needed modification, as the prior WNBA playoff format was unforgiving to say the least. The league needed to take a closer look at adjusting its postseason setup, in order to increase excitement for the teams that qualify.

The WNBA went with a three-game series in the first round of the playoffs, followed by best of five series in the semifinals and the Finals. The higher seed hosted the first two games of the first round, while a deciding Game 3 took place at the lower seed’s home arena. The WNBA adopted this format in 2022, and ESPN’s Michelle Voepel anticipated some issues with the first round setup that would appear valid. She wrote in 2021, “A series sweep means that the lower-seeded team doesn’t get a playoff game at home. But if the series goes the distance, the decisive game has the better-seeded team on the road. And that’s not a good setup, either.”

The first point Voepel makes is no small deal. Lower seeded WNBA playoff teams who can’t force a third game in round one don’t get the benefit of what might be a major opportunity to sell out their building and drive merchandise sales at their arena. Additionally, stacking home games for the higher seed in the first two games of the first round puts the lower seeded team at a huge disadvantage, making it unlikely that first round series ever get to a Game 3. That hurts the WNBA as a whole, since their format inherently doesn’t promote longer, more compelling series.

Much has been written about WNBA salaries in recent years. The WNBA playoffs gives players a chance to augment their compensation by earning bonuses in the postseason. Marca reports that teams eliminated in the first round receive $1,616 per player, while teams eliminated in the semifinals receive $3,123 per player. The team that loses in the WNBA Finals sees each player receive $7,746. Players on the team that wins the WNBA title receive $20,825 each, which in some cases can be 20 percent of a player’s salary. Put in those terms, it qualifies as a big deal, but the WNBA’s playoff system makes it hard for teams to have a fair shot.

Granted, teams that have won more games and earned a higher seed should have an advantage. It seems like it might be too heavily weighted towards the higher seed, at least in the first round. The NBA used to have a playoff setup where the first round series was shorter than the series in subsequent rounds of the playoffs. Fewer games tend to drive up excitement considering the desperation in each contest, but also don’t create memorable battles that transpire over multiple days in multiple cities.

A two game sweep also pushes stars on lower seeded teams out very early, which seems a bit brief considering the regular season schedule they played to qualify. Indiana Fever head coach Christie Sides told SB Nation, “The last time I was in this position, it was a one-game elimination. You could beat anybody in this league on a given night. It’s got a lot of luck to do with it. But, yeah, I agree. Now we have charter flights. We can get back and forth. I’m sure it’s something they’re going to talk about.”

Do you think the WNBA reads the Blog? Maybe not, but there is no such thing as too much Caitlin.
